Im a proud generation x woman

Over the past few weeks I have been researching about myself, that is myself as a woman born in 1969, an older generation x woman.   It has been enlightening and delightful.  I wear my generation  x badge on my sleeve.

We were the first generation of women who grew up believing we could have it all, a successful career and a loving family.  Baby boomers before us had fought for equality and women’s rights and social justice. We often came home from school to an empty house because both parents worked and we largely had to figure it all out for ourselves independence wise. We were the latch key kids and with that we grew up knowing that no one was coming to rescue us or do it all for us.

Being generation x i loved things like Crowded House musically and the Little House On The Prairie books etc. I am pretty much a bog standard generation x girl. I was a teenager when John Hughes was making coming of age movies for the teenage market.

Being generation x has shaped the woman that i become.  I shocked my family by moving out as a young 20 something woman a right of passage of my generation and the best thing I ever did because it made me staunchly independent.  Even today I am generation x through and through because I am in the age group of women who are statistically higher than any other age group to live on their own happily without a partner. We are contented and at peace in our lives and don’t need a man to feel good. I am a proud generation x woman and I feel life owes me nothing.
