Just like everyone, when I have too much time to myself, I can feel negative thought patterns coming on. These thoughts are normally about things from my past, eg, certain people or certain events. It is frustrating when these thoughts intrude as I can’t change what happened in the past. I can only change how I react to them in the present tense.
I have learned that when these thoughts intrude to use my mindfulness to take my mind off those negative patterns. I use mindfulness in a variety of ways eg practising meditation, writing ✍️ this blog, reading 📚 books or watching junk on the television, shows like Nigella Lawson, Grand Designs, The Newsreader etc or playing with Lily. If I can distract my mind, I can stop the thoughts from becoming intrusive. This normally works really well. Mindfulness is really living in the present, appreciating it and feeling peace of mind. It is a skill that I try to work on, so when thoughts or events take over, I dont don’t dwell in negativity. Try doing this for yourself in baby steps, and like me, you will get to a stage that you really know what to do for yourself when thoughts of the past come to you.
Beautiful…a wise and thoughtful piece of writing….you have come a long way Kaye…don’t look back..just keep moving forward and trust that everything is going to be fine ❣️❣️
