More thoughts about the themes in The Newsreaderhttps://www.google.com/adsense/new/u/0/pub-3691500166505297/privacymessaging

As a lot of my reaers will be aware I have been binge watchibg the third and final series of The Newsreader,  produced by the ABC here in Australia

The more I watch this  series, the more I am captivated by it. As a woman who lives with my mental health issues on a daily basis, I am so impressed by the role of Helen Norville,  plsyed by Anna Torv.  Ten years ago, such a character of Helen would not have existed on mainstream television.  Helen would have been portrayed as someone incapable of leading a successful life because of her mental health issues. She would have been someone to be pitied,  a token role to show how stereotypical mentally unwell people behave.  Boy, have we come a long way over the past decade.  Helen Norville is amazingly successful,  battling with her own demons.  In the first teo series she is clearly battling,  but in this third series she becomes empowered and also healed,  partly due to a good counsellor,  and Helen learning more about her diagnosis and taking on an expose about mental health patients becoming deinstutionlised.  It is a compelling show to watch.

The other main themes of The Newsreader relate to friendship,  loyalty, and love.  Helen and Dale always have each others backs, particularly when their lives are falling apart. In the end, those who have been loyal and true friends win out. Karma is a big theme, and to see Lindsay’s character get his just desserts is just so pleasing to watch. Good triumphs over evil, and that is just so satisfying to see. It makes me think of my own group of friends and the loyalty abd comerarderie I have with those I ❀️ Love  I am intensely loyal to my friends and hsve moved on from the people who were disloyal and destructive in my life, my ex husband included. The loyalty that exists with my friends is just so wonderful. We always have each other’s backs.  I hope people watch The Newsreader with an open mind and heart. It truly is of its time. We have cone a long way.
