The lost and the found.

As a fan of Midnight Oil I was very saddened by Rob Hirsts passing from pancreatic cancer,  but what I have learned of his life since have made me realise he was a truly remarkable man.

The most favourite thing I have learned is the story of him connecting with his long lost daughter Jay O’Shea. When Rob was just 17 his then girlfriend discovered she was pregnant and what happened next was very common back in the day. His girlfriend was sent for a ” holiday ” interstate and the baby was given up for adoption instantly. Rob never knew the gender of the child and was told to just go to uni and forget the child produced by that union.

His long lost daughter turned out to be Jay O’Shea and it wasn’t until Jay was in her 30s that she found her birth parents and met Rob.  The most touching thing about this story is that Jay is a wonderful talented singer and it really is no surprise given who her parents were.  Rob was very well known not only for being the drummer in Midnight Oil, but he is a gifted songwriter and musician in general.  The fact that he met his long lost daughter before his cancer battle is a gift 🎁.  I intend to buy the music 🎶 album called The Lost And The Found that they made as a house-warming present to myself when I eventually move. They are two incredibly talented people and their music together is delightful.
