Midnight Oil had street cred

The more I read and listen to Midnight Oil and Rob Hirst the more it appears that they not only were super talented but they also had street cred the way they interacted with the media.

Midnight Oil were famous for the fact that they never appeared on Countdown where the acts who performed on Countdown would famously mime their songs 🎵 to an audience consisting mainly of screaming teenage girls.  Midnight Oil didn’t need Countdown to be famous they were famous for their strong political stance and their target market weren’t young groupie girls. Other bands also didn’t like the fact that they would have to mime on Countdown  Split Enz performed humouresly making it obvious they were miming and sending them up whilst Cold Chisel famously smashed their instruments and destroyed the set whilst their songs 🎵 were played.

Midnight Oil also never sold their soul by carefully choosing when to appear on television 📺 . When they were given the honour of appearing on the closing ceremony of the Sydney Olympics back in the year 2000 they went away to outback Australia 🇦🇺  to cobsider how to approach that offer. The result was that Midnight Oil came back with all guns blazing and all the members of the band wore overalls with the word SORRY emblazoned in big white letters.  This at the time was very controversial because the government of the day was refusing to say sorry to our indigenous population for all the past injustices done to them.  Opinions over this act were divided some loving Midnight Oil for their stance and others hating them for it. To me Midnight Oil were strong and true to their values and ethics.  You either loved Midnight Oil or you hated them they were that devicesive and decisive . I am in the camp of those who 😍 loved them. Since Rob Hirsts passing i have googled alot and watched many YouTube clips of Rob’s and the group and my love for them grows with everything I learn
