As I sit and write this blog post I know I feel compelled to write ✍️. As a teenager of the 80s here in Melbourne Australia I grew up with a great love of our greatest political band Midnight Oil. Rob Hirst was always my favourite member and just about every heterosexual teenage girl of my vintage were attracted to Rob as he pounded away on the drums to create Midnight Oils wall of sound. If Peter Garrett was the political mouthpiece for Midnight Oil Rob Hirst was the charming one, the one with the wit and humour of the band. I feel saddened by his battle with pancreatic c cancer. Just weeks ago he donated his drum kit to a charity auction. The reserve price was $10.000 Australian dollars. It sold for $90,000 Australian dollars, such was the esteem he was held in. I know I will feel different when I now listen 🎶 to Midnight Oil. I ask if you are a fan of Midnight Oil that you watch the documentary about them on ABC iview called The Hardest Line and that you read my past blog post 📫 about it.
